Implementation Oversight and Success Monitoring

Ensuring that the watershed goals are achieved.

Kentucky Water Research Institute-wht.png

The ultimate goal of watershed planning is to restore waterways to fully support their designated uses for recreation and aquatic life habitat.  The implementation plan for the Glenns Creek Watershed outlines numerous projects, practices, responsible parties, and timelines developed to achieve the watershed objectives and goals.

The Kentucky Division of Water utilizes the EPA’s Pollution Load Estimation Tool (PLET) to estimate the amount of nutrient and sediment reduction accomplished by each implemented practice.  Bacterial load reductions are estimated according to the Kentucky-specific model. Once the cumulative estimated load reduction from implemented activities is estimated to be sufficient to achieve the load reductions outlined in this plan, official success monitoring will be initiated by the Kentucky Division of Water.

This section of the plan outlines how progress towards the watershed goals and implementation activities are tracked over time. Measuring progress on implementation includes five elements described below: 1.) Organizational Leadership, 2.) Structural Practice Implementation, 3.) Outreach Implementation, 4.) Water Quality Monitoring, and 5.) Watershed Plan Updates.
